Create Your Own Printable Fill-in-the-Blank Worksheets
This Fill-in-the-Blank Worksheet Generator helps you quickly create printable cloze exercises for your students. Just enter your own sentences (or choose from a pre-made list), use brackets to mark the words you want students to fill in, and generate a downloadable PDF that’s ready to print and use in class.

You can enter up to 15 sentences per worksheet, and place brackets around as many words as you like to turn them into blanks. Each bracketed word will be replaced with a blank space for students to fill in. You can also choose whether or not to include a word bank to support students as they work through the exercise.

Suggested Ways to Use This Tool
Hangman is a great game to use in the classroom — it’s simple, engaging, and perfect for building vocabulary and spelling skills. Here are some of our favorite ways to use this online version in your lessons.
Vocabulary Practice
Enter sentences or questions from your current unit and remove the target vocabulary using brackets. This creates a simple and effective way for students to review key words in context and helps reinforce both meaning and usage.
Grammar Focus
Use sentences from your lesson to focus on specific grammar points — like verb tenses, articles, or prepositions. Bracket the grammar element you want students to supply, and the worksheet becomes a quick, focused way to practice grammar in context.
Create a Mad Lib–Style Game
Use the Fill in the Blank Worksheet Maker to create a fun, light-hearted language activity. Before giving students the worksheet, ask them to come up with words based on your prompts — for example, a noun, a verb ending in -ing, an adjective, etc. Then, give them the worksheet and have them write in the words they suggested to complete the sentences. This often results in funny and surprising outcomes, and it’s a great way to review parts of speech in a playful way.
Reading Comprehension Support
After reading a short passage or story with your class, use the Fill in the Blank Worksheet Maker to create follow-up questions or summary sentences with key words removed. This helps students focus on main ideas, recall important details, and reinforce understanding of the text in a structured, accessible way.
